This tour allows ample opportunity to explore the treasures of Kaziranga National Park and Manas biosphere reserve and UNESCO world heritage site. In addition to the vast numbers of one-horned rhinos which can be seen on the plains, the region is home to rarities like pygmy hog, hispid hare, golden langur and bengal florican.
This 16-day tour covers some of Assam’s key sites for observing the wildlife of its rich plains and forests. Assam’s parks are India’s answer to the Serengeti, with vast numbers of ungulates present at some sites.
Aside from water buffalo, bison, elephant, one-horned rhino, hog deer and soft-ground barasingha, there are good chances of tiger sightings in mid February as burning of vegetation greatly improves visibility. Asian short-clawed otters are seen relatively easily here and almost 500 bird species have been recorded in Kaziranga alone.
anas Biosphere reserve offers the peace and tranquility that few other Indian parks can match and in addition to the species found in Kaziranga, it is home to the critically endangered bengal florican, pygmy hog, hispid hare and golden langur. Another unique aspect of a visit here is the night drives which are offered and enable the visitor a chance to sight some nocturnal species.
At some point during the tour, a presentation will be given on tips and techniques to improve your photography and get the most out of your time in the field.
After a transit night in Delhi, you will proceed to Bandhavgarh National Park, arguably the best location in the world for sighting tigers in the wild. You will spend 4 nights here, before returning to the capital for your international flight home.
For this 2-night extension you will need to leave your home country 2 days prior to the start of ‘Assam Plains’. You will be taken to 3 sites enabling you to site upto 8 species of primates including the critically endangered Western hoolock gibbon.
An extension to this world heritage site adds 1 night to the duration of the tour. It is visited by road from the capital, Delhi.
